Columbia S.C. (Cola Daily) — Homeless No More broke ground Tuesday, Oct. 13, on its new affordable housing community designed to support families with children.
Grand Village, located at the former Grand Motel (3003 Two Notch Road) will provide 30 homes for families.
The housing community is the latest project in Homeless No More’s Live Oak initiative, which works to make attainable housing available for those who need it most. Homeless No More has already completed three communities in this project — Myrtle Grove, Live Oak and Waites Way — and has four more in progress, including Grand Village.
Grand Village will consist of four new residential buildings, and the revitalization of two existing motel buildings, as well as the Christopher Community Center, named in memory of the late Jim Christopher, an advocate for Homeless No More's mission.
Garvin Design Group, a local design firm, is behind the project’s planning and architecture, and shared that the project would preserve the iconic Grand Motel sign, while bringing revitalization and brighter colors to a long abandoned property.
“Every family deserves a place to live, a neighbor to know, and a community to be part of. Grand Village makes that possible,” said HNM President and CEO Lila Anna Sauls. “This project has been almost three years in the making, and none of it would have been possible without the dedication and generosity of our incredible partners.”
